Response: The North Island Kiwi Bird has a variety of adaptations to increase it's chance of surviving, such as the nostrils at the end of it's beak, whiskers, and vestigial wings. The nostrils at the end of the kiwi's beak allow it to search for food by probing it's long beak into the ground to search for the invertebrates it eats. The fine whiskers at the base of it's beak help the kiwi find it's way around in dim or poor light due to their poor eyesight. They have also adapted vestigial wings due to not requiring the use of flight for many years. The wings became vestigial and smaller, so that they wouldn't use up as much energy since they were unneeded.
